The stained glass windows

The windows are not in the crooked conditions they may appear in some photos. They have been stitched together from several. Apologies.

Windows In memory of John Wormald Appleyard (1832-94)
who was the Farsley monumental sculptor, the window was designed by him and found in his studio after his death.

It depicts the Crucifixion and the weeping women. The figure of the crucified is bought into prominence by the concentration of light from Heaven, while the city in partial darkness seems already to anticipate an impending curse and doom. The pelican was believed to feed its young with its own blood; this symbol of self-sacrifice is often found in Christian art.

Installed in 1984
