Rev Gareth Howles appointed as new vicar

A new vicar has been appointed as Priest in Charge of Farsley and will join us later this year.

The Bishop of Leeds said he is pleased to announce that Rev Gareth Howles will be taking up the post. He is currently the Assistant Curate at Morton and Riddlesden in the Bradford Episcopal Area.

Gareth knows our area, having spent nine years as the Children and Youth Minister at Pudsey Parish Church. He loves all sport, especially playing and watching football, (but he will equally enjoy watching tiddlywinks or fishing) going to the pub with his friends to win the quiz or beat them at pool, and having people round for meals so he can try out new recipes. He also enjoys getting away in the caravan with his wife Naomi and their five children, the oldest being 16 and the youngest a few months old.

He will be licensed at a service at St John's Church on 3 December at 7:30pm, subject to coronavirus restrictions.

The churchwardens said, "We believe Gareth will meet all that we requested in our vision for the future of Farsley and we welcome him and his family to the Vicarage and our Church. We had ten applicants for the post, and it was difficult to reduce that number to four on the short list. All the candidates were good, but we all felt that Gareth was the one best suited for us. I am sure he will receive a warm welcome when he arrives in December."
