Keeping St John's safe during coronavirus

We are working hard to keep St John's safe for everyone with special measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Our building is safe and you are most welcome to join us in church.

From the moment we had to close our doors at the start or the coronavirus lockdown we started thinking about safe ways to reopen St John's. Before opening our doors again we wanted to make sure we had done everything necessary to make sure it is safe to welcome everyone back to St John's. But there are also some things you can do, when you visit church, to help keep our church safe for everyone:

  • Visit church with members of your own household or extended support bubble only.
  • Arrive early for services so we have time to sign you in and find somewhere to sit.
  • Follow the guidelines on physical distancing.
  • Sanitise your hands when you arrive and before and after you receive Communion.
  • Follow the one way system and avoid any areas marked 'no entry'.
  • Use the seats indicated. Some pews are out of use and we are asking people to sit in specific places depending on the number of people from your household.
  • Only touch what is necessary.
  • Avoid physical contact with people who are not part of your household.
  • No singing or shouting.
  • No wind instruments can be played.

You will also notice some changes to our Communion services. We are unable to sing hymns. During The Peace we are using physically distanced ways of greeting other members of the congregation and at Communion we are not sharing the wine among the congregation. We are also no longer passing the collection plate around but it is still available at the back of church for you to place any donations on as you arrive.

With so many things looking different, church may feel slightly strange compared to what we are used to. What hasn't changed is the warm welcome you will receive at St John's and the spiritual joy we hope you get from our services. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
