Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptised. If you were baptised at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ.
Congratulations if you have made the decision that you would like to be confirmed. It can be an important part of a lifetime journey of faith.
Confirmation services are always led by the area's bishop. At St John's that is usually the Bishop of Kirkstall, the Rt Rev Arun Arora. He will arrange several services during the year and people will usually travel to a different church for that service to take place.
During the service the Bishop will lay his hands on the heads of those people bring confirmed and say "Confirm, O Lord, your servant with your Holy Spirit" to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.
If you would like to be confirmed, the first step is to speak to your local vicar. Here in Farsley and Rodley, that would be Rev Nathanael Poole and you can reach him by emailing vicar@stjohnsfarsley.org.uk so that he can meet you to talk more about the confirmation service. He will often suggest that you attend a few meetings to help you to prepare for the service and explore your faith.
