1892

  • Alms basin - Sunday School Teachers Desk for Communion Table - Dr. Lambert (Sen.)

  • Credence Table - H. & F. Wade & Mrs. T. Popplewell

  • Alms Plate - G. Brooke, H. & S. Hainsworth T. Hollings & A. Pawson

  • Prayer Book for Communion Table - Mr. & Mrs. A. Butler

  • Prayer Book for Ordinary Prayer Desk - Miss Lambert

  • Sanctuary hangings - the centre piece was worked in arrasene (embroidery material of wool and silk) on green serge, the flower adopted being one of the Scripture titles of our Lord and the design suggestive of the Trinity. The side curtains were of plushnette (plush-fabric with longer and more open pile than velvet). The hangings were prepared by the Bradford Art Needlework Society at a cost of £10. The cost was met by -

  • Cassocks and surplices were provided by Mr. H. Slater for the Choir.

1897

  • Two Vases were presented by Mrs. Edwin Gaunt in memory of her sister.

1899

  • Lectern. The solid brass lectern was presented by Mr. Arthur Gaunt in memory of his wife Cissie. The Lectern Bible was given by Mrs. Stoker and family in memory of Mr. Jesse Stoker who was a choir member for 27 years.

1900

  • A new frontal and super-frontal (frontal - embroidered hanging for an altar and super-frontal - formerly covering the whole of the altar front - antependium) together with a pulpit-fall and book-marker. They were of white brocaded silk, worked in gold and delicate colours. Given to the Church by a lady member as a thank-offering for the recovery of a serious illness.

1910

  • Chancel carpet given by Mr. C. Beverley, J.P.

1928

  • Oak structure to War Memorial window. Designed to hold flower vases - letters were in oxidised copper made by H. Osbeen & Sons, Leeds, at a cost of 15s. 9d. Watson, Lumb of Farsley made the holder for 2s. 6d. The total cost was provided by 21 ex-service men giving 3s. 6d. each.

1935

  • In October Counc. J. Stephenson J.P. & Mrs. Stephenson "very generously offered to defray the cost of an electrical apparatus for the reproduction of a peal of bells". The 'Peal' was brought into use on Advent Sunday, December 1st.

1938

  • Chancel carpet given by Mr. & Mrs. J. Stephenson (cost about £25) maroon pattern with fleur-de-lis.

1940

  • The Altar Cross and two flower vases were given by St. Andrews Brotherhood.

1941

  • Lighting for the nave above apex of chancel arch given by Mr. H. Lister.

1946

  • New gates made from 40 year old pitch-pine were provided by Mr. & Mrs. Wright in memory of Mr. Wright's sister who died in a London air raid. Mr. Wright designed the gates and provided the timber. The labour for making the gates was £16 which was paid for by gifts.

1947

  • An Altar Service book was given by an anonymous donor.

1949

  • Chancel lighting was improved by Mr. H. Lister in memory of his sister.

1950

  • A stone vase was given by the Sunday School teachers in memory of Jesse Hollingworth, a teacher for many years.

  • Verger's Wand presented by Mr. A. Scarborough, family and friends in memory of - John W. Scarborough, who had been a verger for 23 years. It was said that he had been "one of the most efficient vergers ever to serve the church". He had also been a Sunday School Superintendent. This wand was actually stolen being replaced and dedicated in 1973.

  • 24 kneelers had been bought at 4/6d each by a number of church members for the use of the boys in church on Sunday mornings.

  • New loud speakers were provided to replace those provided in 1935. The "church bells" had been silent for some time. Mr. N. Yeadon, Mrs. D. Hodgson, Mrs. W. Lumby and Mrs. T. Cooper met the cost.

  • The daughters of the late Mr. & Mrs. J. Stephenson decided to return the silver salver presented by the church to their parents in 1941. It is inscribed - "Returned to safe keeping of the Church by the family of J.S. - S.H.S. 1891-13th May 1941. Farsley Church on the death of their parents 1944 and 1945".

1954

  • New altar cloth made by Mrs. Heaton and presented to the church in memory of her mother.

  • A small round table in oak provided for the Children's Corner was presented by the Ladies Fellowship in memory of Annie Cook - Sunday School Teacher and Church Worker.

1959

  • Bishop's Chair and Litany Desk was donated by Mr. Hudson - People's Warden - in memory of his late wife. Both were in light oak to match that in the Sanctuary. The work was carried out by Martin Dutton of York who was deaf and dumb. The old desk was given to Tong Church.

1963

  • The Ladies Sewing party provided the present wrought iron gates.

1966

  • New pulpit falls and a processional cross was purchased from the Shackleton bequest. Remaining monies invested.

1970

  • Two English glass Communion Cruets were given by relatives and friends of the late Mr. R.M. Wilson.

  • A green burse (purse) and veil presented in the memory of Mr. P. Moore.

  • Mr. J. Oliver gave a large door mat.

  • Green, white and purple stoles given to match burse and veil.

1972

  • Red stole given by Miss. M. Settle in memory of her sister.

1975

  • New chancel carpet purchased and presented by Mother's Union. Also new seat runners and covering of kneelers in choir stalls - costing in total some £480. Carpet £307. (1938 cost was about £25).

  • 200 copies of "100 Hymns for Today" were provided by relatives and friends of the late Mrs. Williams, Mr. Gaunt and Mrs. Seymour.

  • 200 copies of "Revised A. & M." provided by relatives and friends of Mrs. Seymour of Richmond Road.

The Parish of CALVERLEY-WITH-FARSLEY is referred to in the Domesday Book (1086) as a Manor held by the Saxon - Archill. When the Norman Conquest was over and William gave land away to his noblemen, the area formed part of the estate of Ilbert de Lacy.

The case for building a church in Farsley to better serve the growing population in the early 1800s is made: "Calverley Church could not continue to support so many parishioners and the vicar at the time, Rev. Samuel Redhead had quite a task on his hands in Farsley due to the large number of "less well-off people"."

More than £1892 was raised to pay for the building of St John's in 1842/3 with the building's architect giving his services for free. It has been said "It is remarkable that so neat a religious edifice should be erected for so small a sum".

One of the biggest projects for the church came with the building of the Church Hall and the new Vicarage in the early 1980s. Its reopening was marked with a series of special events of celebration and dedication.
